How does the cutoff gap calculator work?

Accepted Answer

It subtracts your score from the cutoff: Gap = Cutoff − Your Score. A positive gap means you're below the cutoff by that many marks. Zero or negative means you've cleared it — the negative gap shows how comfortably. If you enter total marks, the gap is also shown as a percentage.

What does 'cleared' mean — exactly at the cutoff or above it?

The engine uses ≥ (greater than or equal to): scoring exactly at the cutoff counts as cleared. In practice, exam authorities may have additional tiebreaker rules, but mathematically, your score ≥ cutoff means you've met the threshold.

Do exams have section-wise cutoffs in addition to the overall cutoff?

Accepted Answer

Yes — SSC CGL, IBPS PO, and many other exams have both an overall cutoff and individual section cutoffs. You can run this calculator once per section to check each separately. Clearing the overall cutoff is not enough if any section cutoff is missed.

Which cutoff should I use — official or expected?

Accepted Answer

The official cutoff is released with the result. Before results, you're working with the expected cutoff published by coaching institutes. Use the expected cutoff for planning; once the official cutoff is released, use that for the definitive answer.

Are cutoffs the same for all categories?

Accepted Answer

No — cutoffs differ by category. GEN and EWS typically have the highest cutoffs; OBC is lower; SC and ST lower still; PwD may have a separate cutoff. The official result notification lists category-specific cutoffs. Use the cutoff for your own category when checking.
