Frequently Asked Questions
No — under the standard CBSE formula, 7.5 CGPA converts to 71.25% (7.5 × 9.5), not 75%. The multiplier is 9.5, not 10, so CGPA and percentage only line up exactly at the very top of the scale (10 CGPA = 100%).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- The CBSE multiplier is 9.5, not 10 — a 7.5 CGPA is 71.25%, not 75%. It's a common assumption that CGPA × 10 gives your percentage. The official CBSE Class 10 formula uses 9.5 as the multiplier, so the two only match up at CGPA = 10 (which gives exactly 100%). Anywhere else, using 10 instead of 9.5 overstates your percentage.
- CBSE's 9.5 multiplier doesn't apply to your university's CGPA. CBSE has no jurisdiction over college or university-level CGPA. Many universities publish their own multiplier, use an entirely different formula, or have no official conversion at all — check your institution's own rule and use Institution-Specific Multiplier if it differs from 9.5.
