Frequently Asked Questions
Total days is simply the number of calendar days between the two dates. The years/months/days breakdown works differently — it finds the largest whole number of calendar months that fit between the dates, then measures whatever's left over in days, so month-end dates (like January 31st to March 1st) come out correct rather than rounded.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Total days isn't the same as years × 365. Leap years and varying month lengths mean a simple years-times-365 estimate drifts from the real day count — this calculator counts the actual calendar days between the two dates.
- This isn't for spreadsheet formulas. If you need a DATEDIF or date-difference formula inside Excel, Google Sheets, or SQL itself, that's a different task than using a standalone calculator — this page computes the result directly, it doesn't generate formula syntax.
