How this works

A Muhurat is an auspicious time window determined by the simultaneous quality of five Panchang elements: Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (luni-solar combination), and Karana (half-Tithi).

This calculator identifies time slots in the day that avoid inauspicious periods — Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, and Gulika Kaal — and ranks the remaining windows by how many auspicious Panchang factors are active simultaneously.

The slot score is a weighted sum of active auspicious factors, normalised to [0, 1]. Higher-scored slots are shown first. The Abhijit Muhurat window (roughly 11:54 AM – 12:18 PM) is a midday exception that overrides some otherwise-blocked periods.

Griha Pravesh Muhurat — what Jyotisha tradition considers

Griha Pravesh is considered one of the sixteen Samskaras (rites of passage) in Hindu tradition. Classical texts give detailed Muhurat guidance covering all five Panchang elements, with particular emphasis on Nakshatra and Tithi.

Tithi

Shukla paksha is strongly preferred. The 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 13th Tithis are commonly cited as auspicious across multiple texts. Chaturthi, Ashtami, and Chaturdashi are generally avoided.

Nakshatra

The Uttara Nakshatras (Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada) are widely cited for their stable, settled quality. Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, and Revati also appear across classical texts as suitable. Moola, Ashlesha, and Jyeshtha are commonly avoided for home-related ceremonies.

Vara

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are generally considered favourable for Griha Pravesh in many traditions. Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday are typically avoided.

Karana

Vishti (Bhadra) Karana is universally avoided — one of the few Muhurat exclusions agreed upon across virtually all regional traditions.

What the calculator currently checks

The demo rule applied to Griha Pravesh is the same illustrative rule used for all event types. Event-specific rules will be applied when Phase 2 Panchang integration is complete.
